StarGuard plates are an essential part of the TAWT (Trans-Abdominal Wall Traction) procedure. StarGuard foam-padded plates facilitate abdominal wall traction, prevent suture pull-through, help protect skin, and anchor retention sutures in place.
StarGuard plates can be cut into shorter lengths to serve as an alternative to discontinued Retention Guard plates. The foam padding can be peeled back before cutting the plastic. Then the foam should be left longer than the plastic to ensure that the foam padding protects the patient's skin from the cut ends of the plastic.
